The Book on Glass PlatingThird Edition now available
MISSION PATTERN. Plate it, or build it in one layer
Many of you have asked if patterns would ever be made available for the window titled Mission, so the Palm Springs owner of this commissioned panel has kindly given us permission to offer the exclusive pattern set. The scene is a view of an ancient California mission. A full measure of the scene’s tranquility and spirituality is captured in the composition.
The above picture is the plated version originally done for our client, but this project can be very effectively built in just one layer. The package includes a color photo of the finished plated panel, and one full-size pattern for each of the three layers, plus instructions. A separate pattern and special instructions on single-layer construction are provided in the package at no extra cost Glass recommendations are supplied for both plated and single-layer versions. Only $14.95 for the entire package.
Both plated and single-layer versions measure 20¾″ X 24½″. To order using PayPal or mail order, please go to the Order Page.

Our specialty is plating with stained glass
Louis Comfort Tiffany deserves most of the credit for popularizing plating. His early 20th century nature windows were the talk of the art world back then, and are priceless today. Plating, also known as layering, is the use of multiple layers of superimposed glass. Depending on the composition, one plated window may have only a single layer of glass in some sections, and up to four (or more) layers in other parts. By taking full advantage of the inherent transparency of glass, a window can be designed to portray shadows, an incredible illusion of distance, fascinating textures, and a palette of colors not available in any one type of glass. This remarkable technique gives you nearly the same flexibility enjoyed by a painter.
